Once you graduate from our Tourism Specialist program, you may work as a reservationist, tour planner, travel agency manager or event manager. Sullivan University will prepare you for these and other travel and tourism positions through a mix of general education and hospitality and travel studies.

You may also move on to our Associate Degree in Event Management and Tourism or Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Management.

The Tourism Specialist program might appeal to you if you're:

What specific skills or knowledge are taught in the program?

You'll learn all about the ins and outs of tourism, including travel references and geography.

What are potential jobs or employment settings for graduates?

Graduate employment depends largely on additional experience. If you have no additional experience, you can expect to begin in one of the following positions:

  • Sales coordinator
  • Customer service associate
  • Operations coordinator
  • Tour guide
  • Activities coordinators

You'll be able to work in a variety of establishments, including:

  • Tourism council
  • Convention visitors bureaus
  • Hotels, resorts and convention centers
  • Cruise lines
  • Corporate meeting and travel departments
  • Luxury tour operators
  • Professional sports organizations and venues

If you have one to two years of outside experience, you can expect to begin at the management level in supervisory positions. Other responsibilities may include:

  • Production scheduling

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE TOURISM SPECIALIST DIPLOMA

Length: 9 months

Time length for program completion will vary depending upon the number of courses taken per term, developmental courses when required, transfer credit accepted, lack of continuous enrollment, etc.
